What is happening in week 15
Doctors count pregnancy weeks from the first day of your last period, so week 15 sits in the second trimester (week 14 to week 27). That is about 25 weeks to go until week 40, and about 3.4 months by a rough conversion. In week 15 the baby is about 10.1cm long and covered in fine downy hair.
Your baby
The NHS guide gives about 10.1cm, compared with an apple. A soft layer of hair called lanugo is growing, eyebrows and eyelashes are developing, the eyes are sensitive to light and hearing is starting, so the baby may hear your voice and heartbeat.
Your body
You may feel less steady as the bump grows. Brief jabbing pains on the sides of the bump are usually round ligament pain, and resting with your feet up helps. Itchy skin may respond to an unperfumed moisturiser and loose cotton clothes.
This week’s to-do
- Wear loose cotton underwear and use unperfumed soap to lower the chance of thrush.
- Take care on stairs and ask for a seat on public transport when needed.
- Keep up pelvic floor exercises.
When to call
Call your doctor or hospital if you have any bleeding, discharge that changes colour or smell, pain when you pee, or itching that gets worse, especially at night.
Chaitanya Hospital in Kadapa, near RTC Bus Stand, Simhapuri Colony, provides delivery and emergency care 24/7. Our antenatal check-ups team can answer questions about your own pregnancy.
Use the week-by-week guide to jump to your week, or the due date calculator to work out your dates. Timings for scans and tests come from NHS guidance in the UK and can differ from your doctor’s schedule, so always follow your own doctor’s advice.
