What is happening in week 27
Doctors count pregnancy weeks from the first day of your last period, so week 27 sits in the second trimester (week 14 to week 27). That is about 13 weeks to go until week 40, and about 6.2 months by a rough conversion. At about 36.6cm in week 27, the baby’s lungs can breathe.
Your baby
The NHS guide gives about 36.6cm, a head of cauliflower. The lungs can now breathe and the baby is getting plumper as organs mature ahead of life outside the womb.
Your body
Bloating, constipation and snoring from swollen nasal passages are common. Tiredness and sleep problems may increase, along with piles and heartburn.
This week’s to-do
- Think about where you would like to give birth and ask about antenatal classes.
- Flying: the NHS says this is probably the last week you can fly without a fitness-to-fly note.
- After week 28, sleep on your side.
When to call
Call your doctor or hospital if you have any bleeding or feel anxious or low.
Chaitanya Hospital in Kadapa, near RTC Bus Stand, Simhapuri Colony, provides delivery and emergency care 24/7. Our antenatal check-ups team can answer questions about your own pregnancy.
Use the week-by-week guide to jump to your week, or the due date calculator to work out your dates. Timings for scans and tests come from NHS guidance in the UK and can differ from your doctor’s schedule, so always follow your own doctor’s advice.
